1. What kind of bike do I need?
No need to bring your own bike! Kyoto Bike Tour provides premium e-bikes to ensure you have the most comfortable ride possible. Everything you need, including high-quality bikes and a helmet are taken care of – you can just focus on enjoying the adventure!
2. Do I need to be a avid cyclist?
You must be able to cycle 75 km / 46 mi a day. The tour is designed for cyclists, and with the e-bikes provided, it’s easy to keep the pace fun and relaxed.
3. How hard is the Lake Biwa Bike Tour?
It’s a moderate, easy-going ride! However, you must be used to cycling longer distances. There are lengthy flat stretches, rolling hills as well as inclines. With your e-bike, you can take it easy and enjoy the beautiful surroundings without worrying too much about the tough climbs.
4. When’s the best time to go?
The most scenic times are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). You’ll enjoy perfect weather, beautiful cherry blossoms or fall colors, and ideal cycling conditions.
5. Are meals included?
Yes! Kyoto Bike Tour takes care of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so you can relax and savor local dishes like fresh lake fish, delicious noodles, and other Japanese specialties. No need to worry about food – we’ve got you covered. Please let us know at time of booking if you have any food restrictions.

7. Will there be a language barrier?
Not at all! All of our guides speak English. Don't worry, you’ll always feel taken care of on the tour.
8. Can I bring my own pedals and helmet?
Yes. Please let us know ahead of time if you plan to use your own pedals and/or helmet.
9. Can I bring my own bicycle?
Yes, but recommend using one of our premium e-bikes provided. If you bring your own bicycle, we are not responsible for any maintenance, possible damage incurred or theft to your bicycle. No drinking and driving.
10. Do I have to use an e-bike?
We provide premium electric assist bicycles that can also be used without assistance. They’re lightweight and offer a smooth ride, with the option to turn off the power for a traditional bike experience.
10. Where will I stay?
You’ll stay in comfortable, lakeside hotels, ryokan inns, or guesthouses, all hand-picked by the our experienced guides. Many accommodations have breathtaking views of the lake, and some even have relaxing hot springs to soak in after a day of cycling. *Accommodation is subject to change upon availability.
11. Will I have my own room?
Yes. Please let us know at time of booking if you will need your own room or if you will be sharing with others.
12. How do I book the tour?
Booking is simple! You can reserve your spot online right here through the site. It's best to book a few months ahead, especially for popular times like spring and fall.
13. Do you offer any shorter tours?

14. Do you transport luggage?
Yes, we transport your luggage throughout the bike tour. You are responsible for getting your luggage to the tour’s starting point and for its transport after the tour ends.
15. Do you do hotel pickup and drop-off?
No, we do not offer hotel pickup or drop-off. You are responsible for arriving at the predetermined meeting point and for getting to your accommodation at the end of the tour.
16. Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, you are required to have travel insurance in order to participate on this tour. You will also be required to sign a liability waiver at the start of the tour.
